About me

My most recent position as Corporate Trainer at Fluent Russia (a training and development services provider to Russian and multinational companies) enabled me to facilitate a multitude of job-related and career discussions with a wide range of professionals and subject matter experts working in different departments and positions. My additional responsibilities were to source, develop, edit, proofread, and upload learning content to the company’s custom-built learning management system for client self-study and blended learning programs (see my work portfolio). As part of the company’s strategic goal to drive engagement through social learning events, I assisted with the promotion and attended quiz nights, also by facilitating events such as conversation clubs and movie nights. Currently, I am still providing training on a freelance basis to the Director of eCommerce at Okey, a federal network of grocery stores in Russia. After having spent many years teaching and training abroad, I developed a passion for helping upskill and improve not only language proficiency levels of clients, but also their skills and abilities to communicate effectively across cultures. This role required highly attuned communication skills in the way of consistently grading my language; delivering instructions in a clear, concise manner; and asking concept check questions so as to maximise learner comprehension and to ensure a quality, stress-free learning experience. Engage, Present, Practice and Production (EPPP) is the prevalent method of instruction in the TESOL field, as well as the communicative approach (CLT). Personally, I used these methods frequently, along with task-based learning (TBL), role-play activities, and a flipped classroom approach. During this time, I honed my ability to identify skills gaps, learner’s motivation, strengths and weaknesses. These were addressed accordingly by tailoring targeted practice skills activities and delivering lessons according to individual learning plans. What’s more, I have become familiar with the adult learning principles, applied Bloom’s Taxonomy, investigated the ADDIE Training Model and implemented the 4MAT Model through self-directed learning and experimentation, as it has been my goal for some time to transition into an L&D specialist role . Incorporating coaching (the GROW Model) into my one-on-one interactions proved to be beneficial, as some lesson discussion topics revealed levels of disengagement and dissatisfaction some learners had with their companies and work situations. Although coaching was not an explicit requirement for my role, assisting learners by guiding them toward a solution-oriented mindset proved to be invaluable in terms of building rapport. Apart from teaching, I have completed an apprenticeship and have experience in operating my own small business in the painting industry. During this time I undertook many painting projects working in collaboration with reputable builders such as Plantation Homes and Metricon Homes. Additionally, I was a host employer, taking on 2 apprentices from All Trades QLD for a period of time, which I found to be challenging but also immensely rewarding. In terms of my professional development, I am soon to finish my online studies (Diploma in Human Resource Management) with an Australian RTO, which includes the elective unit BSBLED501 Develop a Workplace Learning Environment. I am on track to complete all coursework by February, 2021. I have also investigated obtaining RPL for a Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment. This qualification I plan to complete by August, 2021. Please see my current portfolio here: https://veivers1985.wixsite.com/amandaveivers
